CANON CANYON

Modern day troubadours or just teen angsters ten hard years down the road?

Armed with a Telecaster, a baritone voice, and a drum kit, Canon Canyon may well be -- at least according to their PR -- the new folk hero of our time. Or not.

One thing's for sure -- they take themselves very seriously. So we don't have to?

I dunno. I listen to their music, and I imagine lost and lonely highways, late night diners, a tired waitress chewing tired gum, a cracked neon sign buzzing "Open All Night" and a car radio playing slightly off-station.

Think Uncle Tupelo and Son Volt, or The Cash Brothers and Three O'Clock Train., if you dare. Cosmic Americana stray cat blues hangover music for when it's three o'clock in the morning 24/7.

Or don't think of them at all. They were a no-show, and the rumors are that they've broken up.

Too bad...
