FINGER PICKIN' GOOD!

Goh Kurosawa

and

Aki Miyoshi

The Butler's Faithful all know what an amazing talent our pal Goh Kurowsawa is. A master guitarist, the globetrotting Goh can be counted on to perform feats of guitar wizardry, delivering an amazing journey of musical discovery that will have your jaw bouncing off the floor. Utilizing a single acoustic guitar and a sorceror's bag of electronic devices, he creates a free-flowing, intoxicating, almost-supernatural swirl of overlapping musical ideas, tweaking, blending and twisting not just melodies, grooves and bass lines, but (rumours are) time and space itself. It's jazz, new age, rock'n'roll, flamenco, classical, reggae, Latin and Japanese traditional music all rolled into one. And other times he just beats on that ol' guitar like it owes him money.

And then, once you've gotten (almost) back to normal, Aki Miyoshi will take the Butler's stage for the very first time. An acclaimed classical guitarist, considered to be one of the leading finger-style guitarists in his native Japan, Aki's most recent music has taken a decidedly left-hand turn, wandering into ambient territory, while his latest album, "Easy To Use," is a unique and spirited melding of jazz standards and Brazilian bossa nova with his own prize-winning classical style. But regardless of what he plays, Aki's aim is to connect/calm/free the audience. And so far he's succeeded, drawing rave reviews for performances in Korea, Singapore, Australia, and now the US.

I could go on (and on) about how great Aki is, but suffice it to say that Goh, who brought Aki to our attention, insists that Aki go on first.

Be prepared to have your mind blown. One finger-picked guitar string at a time.
